On April 17, CISC Alberta hosted their Spring Steel Design Forum 2018 in Edmonton. Featured guest speaker, Jeff DiBattista, P.Eng., Ph.D., MBA, Practice Principal at DIALOG, discussed the changing landscape of the steel design and construction industry with an emphasis on technological advancement.
With a thorough assessment of the past several decades, DiBattista demonstrated the impact of technological change on society and how its disrupting steel design, fabrication and construction. He begged the question: is technological change a threat or an opportunity?
DiBattista urged the audience to explore the ways new and emerging technology could increase their businesses’ productivity and competitiveness in the current marketplace. He stressed the value of working with change, rather than resisting it. As he has simply put it—be the disruptor, not the disrupted.
