The Canadian Institute of Steel Construction (CISC) has released the following statement welcoming the support of Mr. Poilievre and the Conservative Party of Canada in regard to maintaining tariff uniformity with the United States on Chinese EVs and steel products. Official statement below:
“The Canadian Institute of Steel Construction (CISC) welcomes Mr. Poilievre and the Conservatives’ support of maintaining tariff uniformity with the United States on Chinese EVs and steel products. Canada’s steel constructors, fabricators, and manufacturers recognize the vital importance of cross-border trade to the Canadian economy, and have witnessed first-hand the impacts of ‘dumping’ Chinese steel products into the domestic market. Now that the Department of Finance has completed its EV Tariff consultation, we expect the Government to swiftly follow the US approach and match their tariff regime on Chinese EV and steel products. Further, we are hopeful that the government will finally establish “Fabricated in Canada” requirements in the construction of all taxpayer-funded EV manufacturing plants.”
