Wood is a combustible building material and the most susceptible to catching fire with devastating consequences to life and property. Over the past few years, we have witnessed deadly fires in several buildings in various stages of construction around the world.
As recently as early November, we had a deadly five-alarm fire at the Barclay Friends Senior Living Facility in Philadelphia, a wood-framed building that was fully sprinklered, resulting in the over 40 people being injured or hospitalized.
Another deadly fire at the L’Isle-Verte nursing home in Quebec in 2014 killed 32 seniors and injured an additional 15 people.
This past summer, the fire at Grenfell Tower residential complex in London, England took the lives of 79 people due to the use of combustible materials.
