This dynamic two-year graduate certificate is designed to give students specialized and thorough training in the detailing, supply, fabrication and installation of steel structures including the management and coordination of projects. The training is directly related to industry standards and working practices within North America and will enable students to develop detailed drawing, analytical and communication skills for the structural steel industry. Students will learn CAD skills, building information modelling (BIM), building code requirements, specifications and estimating to assist them with challenging projects.
- 5 awards of $ 2,000 to be distributed annually covering a 2 year time frame per student recipient commencing 2019
- In year 1, there will be 5 awards of $ 1,000 to 5 students
- In subsequent years, there will be 10 awards of $ 1,000 distributed each year to 10 students
- (first $ 1,000 Signing bonus clause) Student must pass all classes in term prior to undertaking a work term within the steel industry
- Preference will be given to students accepting a Work term with a CISC member
- Professor to recommend up to 5 students for this award to ERC committee (see guidelines below)
- Funds distributed after 1 month of start of work term
- (second $ 1,000 Job well done clause) Student must complete a work term and obtain a positive letter of reference from work term employer and submit to ERC committee for approval
- Funds distributed after 2 months of commencing final class term
- It should be the student’s intention to work in the Canadian Steel Construction industry
- Students leaving Canada upon graduation do not qualify for this award
- The professor’s discretion is to be used in evaluating the best suited candidates that will become a credit to Conestoga College and the Canadian Steel Construction Industry

- The professor may be a placement coordinator or other designated person from Conestoga College who can interface with the ERC committee.
